“ We Celebrate childhood as a time to inspire children

to grow up happy and confident with a love of learning”

What is Mindfulness?

“Children are often too busy doing too much and have too little time to just “be”. They may be easily distracted, are often restless and may struggle to concentrate. Where can they find their pause button?

Practising mindfulness (and learning at a young age) may be the answer to this. It is our hope that in our mindfulness programme, children will learn to self-regulate, direct their attention, calm their monkey minds, concentrate better and have more patience, friendliness and compassion for others and most importantly compassion for themselves.

Children of All Ages Benefit From Mindfulness Activities:

    • Introduces children to the habit of focusing on the present moment and ignoring distractions.
    • Helps children to stay calm in stressful times.
    • Encourages good habits. When faced with challenges, children come to know they can find some peace by taking a few moments to breathe.
    • Helps to promote happiness by lowering social anxiety and stress.
    • Promotes patience.
    • Improves functions in children’s brains like cognitive control and working memory.
    • Improves attentiveness and impulse control.

Fitkids

In addition to our wonderful mindfulness classes, we will also be incorporating Fitkids classes into our Curriculum for all our sessional children in September. These classes will be held weekly by Maria who is a fully qualified Fitness Instructor who is really excited to be sharing her experience and love of fitness with the children of Kickstart.
We believe that children having fun, and being active promotes both healthy bodies and contributes to positive mental health.
Our FitKids classes will give your child a chance to experience a wide range of fun fitness-related activities to help with their co-ordination, flexibility, agility , strength and speed. Throughout the classes we will use lots of equipment including, yoga balls, steps hurdles, tunnels, balls , beanbags, cones, limbo poles and parachutes.
We will also focus on other parts of fitness, like healthy eating, less screen time and the importance of being kind to our bodies.

Being Active Can Help Your Children To:

  • Have a healthy body
  • Develop self-confidence
  • Improve learning and attention
Children under 5 should have at least 3 hours of physical activity a day. By 5 years of age, this should include at least 1 hour of energetic play a day where they sweat and their breathing is faster than normal.
The activity doesn’t need to be done all at once. It can be built up over the course of the day. Reducing the amount of time your child is sitting or not moving is also important.
All activity counts – walking, running, dancing, hopping, skipping or cycling. Find out more information on active play.
